REPORTS TO: Interim Executive Director

 SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Executive Director or CEO, and serving as an integral member of the senior management team, the Vice President (VP) Marketing, Communications, & Website oversees all communications, marketing, community engagement, event promotion, and public relations efforts for National Diversity Council, including but not limited to strategy, message, branding, identity, and print and digital content. This position also represents the Council externally with certain key program partners and/or community organizations and initiatives and oversees the website and technology team.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • • Oversees development of all communication and marketing plans for identified audiences to achieve the strategic plan of the Council
      • Oversees and sets the direction and strategy of the entire Communications Department and team including external vendors
      • Maintains and manages National Diversity Council’s brand, including education about monitoring of usage; maintains style guide
      • Oversees event promotion as well as serves as a thought partner for all event planning
      • Strategizes and manages public relations efforts in traditional and social media for the Council
      • Oversees development of content for all print and digital materials including brochures, newsletters, e-news, blog, fact sheets, community reports, special event invitations, cultivation/stewardship materials, etc.
      • Manages the creative development (design and writing) for all content in all channels by executing in-house or by managing vendor relationships
      • Ensures the Council uses best practices for digital channels including content creation, design, execution, advertising, and SEO; digital channels include website, e-marketing, blog, and social channels
      • Supports the Executive Director or CEO, and leadership team on presentations and speech writing as needed
      • Maintains and manages vendor relationships associated with marketing and communications
      • Archives publications, media coverage and visual assets
      • Oversees the compilation and secure location of the Council’s historic archives (papers and materials, as well as digital files)
      • Fundraises and secures in-kind donations as needed
      • Validate and drive impact for NDC’s research and community investments
      • Positions Executive Director or CEO and other leaders as sought-after experts
      • Leverages branding, storytelling, and call-to-action opportunities for signature events
      • Sustains and expands media partnerships
      • Builds brand through community engagement
      • Clearly communicates expectations, performance goals, and assignments to direct reports and other staff members as appropriate
      • Regularly assesses direct reports’ performance and provides constructive feedback
      • Supports direct reports’ career development and growth by offering guidance and mentorship

      Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:
      To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each qualification satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
      • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including AP Style
      • Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance the organization’s mission.
      • Digital content and marketing experience
      • Attention to detail; ability to work independently, manage deadlines and competing priorities
      • Understanding of nonprofit sector and fundraising a plus

      SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
      • This position oversees the Marketing, Communications, and Tech Teams

      QUALIFICATIONS:
      • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, public relations, journalism, or related field
      • Minimum of 8 years of experience in a senior management role
      • Commitment to the mission and vision of National Diversity Council
      • Proven success in marketing and communications to achieve strategic goals
      • Extensive successful writing and editing experience with a variety of print and online communications media including Microsoft Office and Adobe products
      • Proficient in using social media networking sites for business promotion (Facebook, LinkedIn, X (Formerly Twitter), Instagram, & YouTube).
      • Proficient in using social media scheduling tools (AgoraPulse, HootSuite, SproutSocial, etc.)
      • Experience with graphic design preferred (Canva, Photoshop)
      • Experience with media relations software preferred (cision, meltwater)

      PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
      • Work Environment – Remote. Periodic travel may be required.
      • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
